This was my first time ever coming to rehab and I can honestly say that this is the best experience and journey I’ve had in finding my self and getting sober. The staff at Live Oak actually pay attention to you and show you that they are here for you and your journey is sobriety and they have all the tools to help you if you truly want the help. As I was one that truly wanted the help and I can say I couldn’t have chosen a better place to start my journey in sobriety.

Live Oak and the phenomenal staff made my at first- scary journey into recovery into a life-changing experience. I am from Minnesota and took a flight within 2 hours of calling and instantly felt safe when I arrived. I learned healthy tools for recovery and coping skills I never thought of and the staff (especially Amanda!!!) were genuine and kind to everyone. This will be the best decision of your life.

The staff is great there and makes sure you are well taken care of. Food is good and snacks are available all times of the day. The nurse and doctor made sure they gave me the correct medications to detox and afterwards.

My experience at Live Oak surpassed all of my expectations. The staff are caring and very knowledgeable. The classes provided me with a wealth of knowledge, that pertained to a wide range of substances and addictions. I left feeling confident and educated to maintain my sobriety. If anyone that is reading this needs help, give them a call NOW. You will not be disappointed. God bless you all.

Place saved my son’s life. Individualized care. He said everyone genuinely cared about him for the first time and he has unfortunately been to other treatment centers. He’s been sober 6 months now.

Amazing staff, makes you feel at home. Best working environment i’ve ever experienced all thanks to everyone involved. Beautiful facility, it’s smaller which is better because you get more one on one care. Love it 10/10

What is a Co-Occurring Disorder?

A co-occurring disorder, also known as a dual diagnosis, refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder in an individual. This means that someone is dealing with two separate but interconnected conditions. The substance use disorder can involve the misuse or addiction to drugs or alcohol, while the mental health disorder can range from anxiety and depression to bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. The term “co-occurring” highlights that both disorders occur simultaneously and can influence each other.

Do you have a mood disorder or suspect a loved one is suffering from co-occurring disorders? Live Oak Detox is here to help. Get your free assessment today by calling us at (877) 899-3130.

What Is Dual Diagnosis Treatment?

Dual diagnosis treatment, also referred to as integrated treatment, is an approach to addressing co-occurring disorders by simultaneously targeting both the substance use disorder and the mental health disorder. Rather than treating each condition separately, dual diagnosis treatment recognizes the interplay between the two and aims to provide comprehensive care.

Dual diagnosis treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, addiction specialists, therapists, and counselors. The treatment plan may include a combination of medication, therapy (such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy), support groups, and other evidence-based interventions.

The goals of dual diagnosis treatment are:

R
Reducing Substance Use
R
Managing Mental Health Symptoms
R
Promoting Overall Well-Being
R
Improving Ability to Function in Daily Life

By addressing both conditions together, it increases the likelihood of successful recovery and long-term stability.

Common Co-Occurring Disorders and the Connection to Addiction

The mental health problems that most commonly co-occur with substance abuse are depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. Other mental health conditions related to substance addiction are:

=
Schizophrenia
=
Anorexia
=
Bulimia
=
Phobias
=
PTSD
=
Autism

It’s possible to live a happy fulfilling life that doesn’t depend on drugs or alcohol.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Dual diagnosis treatment is an integrated and comprehensive approach to address co-occurring disorders, which refer to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder in an individual. Here are some key elements of dual diagnosis treatment:

=

Assessment and Evaluation

The first step is a thorough assessment and evaluation by professionals to identify the specific substance use and mental health disorders involved, as well as any other relevant factors.
=

Individualized Treatment Plan

Based on the assessment, a personalized treatment plan is developed that addresses the unique needs and challenges of the individual. This plan may involve a combination of medication, therapy, counseling, and other interventions.
=

Integrated Treatment

Dual-diagnosis treatment emphasizes the integration of mental health and addiction treatment. This means that both disorders are treated simultaneously, rather than separately.
=

Medication Management

If appropriate, medications may be prescribed to help manage symptoms of the mental health disorder and support recovery from the substance use disorder. This is typically done in close collaboration between the individual and their healthcare provider.
=

Behavioral Therapies

Various evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or motivational interviewing, may be utilized to address both substance use and mental health disorders. These therapies help individuals develop coping skills, manage cravings, address underlying issues, and promote overall well-being.
=

Supportive Services

Dual diagnosis treatment often includes additional support services like support groups, family therapy, vocational support, housing assistance, and case management to help individuals in their recovery journey.
=

Ongoing Recovery Support

After completion of the initial treatment, ongoing support is essential to maintain recovery and prevent relapse. This may involve regular therapy sessions, participation in support groups, and access to continued care and resources.

The overall aim of dual diagnosis treatment is to provide comprehensive care that addresses both substance use and mental health disorders, promoting recovery, improved quality of life, and long-term stability.
