This was my first time ever coming to rehab and I can honestly say that this is the best experience and journey I’ve had in finding my self and getting sober. The staff at Live Oak actually pay attention to you and show you that they are here for you and your journey is sobriety and they have all the tools to help you if you truly want the help. As I was one that truly wanted the help and I can say I couldn’t have chosen a better place to start my journey in sobriety.

Live Oak and the phenomenal staff made my at first- scary journey into recovery into a life-changing experience. I am from Minnesota and took a flight within 2 hours of calling and instantly felt safe when I arrived. I learned healthy tools for recovery and coping skills I never thought of and the staff (especially Amanda!!!) were genuine and kind to everyone. This will be the best decision of your life.

Understanding OxyContin Addiction

OxyContin addiction affects people from all walks of life. OxyContin addiction refers to a problematic pattern of misuse or dependence on the prescription opioid medication OxyContin. OxyContin contains the active ingredient oxycodone, which is a potent pain reliever. However, it also carries a high potential for misuse and addiction. Here in Florida, OxyContin overdose and prescriptions have increased over the last several years.

Are you or someone in your life ready to quit OxyContin use? Live Oak Detox clinic treats OxyContin addiction and co-occurring disorders. To learn more about our inpatient and outpatient detox and recovery programs, contact us at (877) 716-4464 for a free assessment.

What Is OxyContin?

OxyContin is a brand name for a prescription medication containing the active ingredient oxycodone. Oxycodone is a potent opioid pain reliever. OxyContin is classified as an extended-release formulation, which means it is designed to release the medication slowly over an extended period to provide long-lasting pain relief for around 12 to 24 hours. It is important to note that OxyContin, like other opioids, carries a risk of misuse, addiction, and overdose. Misuse of OxyContin can include taking it in higher doses, more frequently, or through non-prescribed administration methods. Addiction may develop when someone becomes dependent on the drug both physically and psychologically.

Signs and Symptoms of OxyContin Use and Addiction

Common side effects of taking OxyContin include:

=
Chills or cold sweats
=
Confusion
=
Difficult or labored breathing
=
Dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
=
Fever
=
Tightness in the chest
=
Twitching

Signs and symptoms of OxyContin addiction may include:

=
Strong cravings or compulsive urges to use OxyContin
=
Using OxyContin in higher doses or more frequently than prescribed
=
Inability to cut down or control OxyContin use
=
Spending a significant amount of time acquiring, using, or recovering from OxyContin
=
Neglecting or losing interest in activities previously enjoyed
=
Continual use of OxyContin, despite negative consequences on relationships, work, or personal life
=
Developing tolerance, needing higher doses to achieve the desired effect
=
Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when reducing or stopping OxyContin use

OxyContin Withdrawal

OxyContin withdrawal refers to the collection of physical and psychological symptoms that occur when someone who is dependent on OxyContin stops or significantly reduces their use of the medication. Withdrawal symptoms typically arise as the body adjusts to the absence or reduction of the drug, and it can be a challenging and uncomfortable process.

Common symptoms of OxyContin withdrawal may include:

=
Intense drug cravings
=
Flu-like symptoms
=
Hallucinations
=
Profuse sweating
=
Delusions
=
Reckless behavior
=
Anger
=
Erratic behavior
=
Drug-seeking behavior
=
Insomnia
=
Night terrors

The severity and duration of withdrawal symptoms can vary depending on factors such as the individual’s usage patterns, the dosage of OxyContin taken, and the duration of dependency. Withdrawal symptoms typically peak within the first few days and subside gradually over time.

It is essential to seek medical guidance and support when withdrawing from OxyContin, especially if you have been using it for an extended period or at high doses.

OxyContin Addiction Treatment

Live Oak Detox provides patients with a range of opioid treatment programs. Our Detox and Residential Detox treatments give our patients the flexibility and care they need. Treating OxyContin addiction generally requires a comprehensive and individualized approach. Here are some common elements and strategies involved in our OxyContin addiction treatment:

Medical Detoxification

When someone is physically dependent on OxyContin, a medically supervised detoxification process may be necessary to safely manage withdrawal symptoms. This may involve gradually tapering off the medication or using medications to alleviate withdrawal discomfort.

Behavioral Therapies

Various behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and contingency management, are commonly used in OxyContin addiction treatment. These therapies help individuals identify and change negative thoughts, behaviors, and triggers associated with drug use. They also focus on developing coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and healthier ways of managing pain.

Supportive Counseling

Counseling, individual and group-based, plays a crucial role in OxyContin addiction treatment. It provides a supportive environment for individuals to address the underlying causes of addiction, work through emotional challenges, and learn healthier ways to cope with pain or stress.

Addressing Co-occurring Disorders

Many individuals struggling with OxyContin addiction may also have co-occurring mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. It is essential to address and treat these underlying disorders as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Aftercare and Relapse Prevention

Recovery from OxyContin addiction is an ongoing process. It is crucial to have a well-defined aftercare plan that includes ongoing support, relapse prevention strategies, and means to address potential triggers or setbacks.

Remember, every individual’s treatment needs and goals are unique, so it is important to reach out to our addiction specialists at Live Oak (877) 716-4464 for personalized guidance and support in addressing OxyContin addiction.
